The stylish Mother of the Bride
As Mother of the Bride, you are one of the most important people in the wedding party, and one who is going to shine in the wedding photographs alongside the bride and groom. With all this attention on you, what are the key things to remember when choosing your wedding outfit for the Big Day?
1) Don’t wear the same colour as the Bride.
We know it’s an obvious one, but it’s worth saying. It’s her day, and it’s her turn to shine – so no white, cream or ivory if you are Mother of the Bride or Mother of the Groom. You can still look fabulous - just not in those particular colours on this particular day.
2) Nothing says ‘wedding’ like a fabulous occasion dress.
A great dress really puts the ‘special’ into special occasionwear. An occasion dress will make you look and feel the part – and once you have the perfect dress, the rest of your wedding outfit will fall into place! A jacket, bolero or shrug is just the thing for waiting around outside the church for photographs, or for sitting in the air conditioning at the wedding reception venue. With patterned or textured dresses, it’s best to keep jewellery and accessories discrete and simple, but simpler dresses can be dressed up with bolder jewellery accessories. Complement your dress beautifully with gorgeous shoes and an elegant clutch bag with all your essentials for the day.
3) Dress for the location.
It’s going be a wonderful day, but it’s going to be a long one too. The wedding itself, followed by photographs, the wedding reception and evening party – you want an outfit that is versatile enough to work for you throughout the day. But a church wedding outfit is very different to one worn for a beach wedding – so plan ahead.
4) Wedding hat or fascinator?
Where better to wear a beautiful hat than at a wedding? A hat is the perfect finishing touch to your Mother of the Bride outfit – and tradition says that other wedding guests should keep their hats on until the Mother of the Bride removes hers. If you prefer not to wear an occasion hat, fascinators are feminine, sophisticated and becoming increasingly popular. Fascinators are also easier to transport and wear if you are going to a destination wedding.
5) If you see something you love, buy it.
A lot of Mother of the Bride dresses are made in limited edition runs to ensure they stay exclusive. So if you fall in love with something you see – don’t let it get away. There’s no guarantee it
All that’s left to do is to have a wonderful day!
