I have worked for Phase Eight for nearly four years now, I started when the concession first opened and have watched it grow. I started as a 20 hour Sales Assistant and now do 24 hours.
Phase Eight is a very customer focused company so the main aspect of my job is customer service. We try to assist our customers in every way we can. I really enjoy my job especially when someone comes in with no idea what they want and after my help leaves with a complete outfit.
I have learnt many new skills working with Phase Eight beyond customer service, I now have a greater knowledge of how a concession is run and what goes in to keeping a good business and am always learning new things.
Phase Eight is a fantastic company to work for and the staff are like a family; when I returned to work after having my son I was at complete ease, like I’d never been away!
Concession Manager, Debenhams Woking
I started working for Phase Eight in June 2007, on a Saturday while working as a Nursery Nurse during the week. I was then offered a full time position which I started in October. This was a big career change for me but I had really enjoyed working Saturdays and already felt I had learned a lot. I knew I would get the training and experience I needed from my Manager and Phase Eight, which would let me pursue a career in retail.
After a year I had a promotion to Supervisor in a concession, with a view to becoming a Manager once I had the relevant training and experience.
I was promoted to Manager of the Concession in November 2008 after a 6 month trial period. During this time I completed relevant training with the support from another Manager, which was invaluable to me. I then had a review at the end of the 6 months with my Regional Manager.
I am pleased that I have joined a company where I can progress and develop my skills. I am now looking forward to the challenges ahead. I am pleased after an inital worry of such a career change that I am in the position I am in now. Knowing that I have the support, development, and training, Phase Eight have enabled me to have a career in retail. I look forward to the future.
Supervisor, Windsor
Phase Eight is a great company to work for; I have made so many friends and learnt a lot about fashion and customer service. The role has everything which makes a job enjoyable such as great colleagues, amazing benefits and a fun and exciting atmosphere. Everyone has an important part to play in the company and feels like they make a difference to the store and customers. The company always shows their appreciation for all of our dedication and commitment to Phase Eight.
I started university in September but was able to transfer from one store to another so hopefully I’ll stay with Phase Eight for many years to come.
Store Manager, Perth
I joined the company in 2005 after 6 years’ previous experience in the retail industry.
By 2007 I was promoted to Key Manager for Scotland / northern England, which involves all aspects of training new staff members and rolling out training seminars to develop the teams.
The company has rapidly expanded within this area to 5 stores and 15 concessions and as a market leader in its field, has managed to maintain a personal shopping experience.
The company is highly committed to training and developing employees and have recently completed service and selling workshops.
I work within a great team and Phase Eight continues to create a wonderful working environment and generous incentives.
Sales Consultant, Truro
Working at Phase Eight is one of the most enjoyable jobs I have ever had. I’ve worked in a variety of jobs, including other shops, but none of them compares to Phase Eight. I love my colleagues, I feel part of a fantastic team, and I think the clothes in Phase Eight are lovely – there is no other fashion store like us, with garments to suit every age and every occasion – selling them is a real joy. It’s hardly surprising that I never get that Monday morning feeling!
Store Manager, Stamford
I am the Store Manager in Stamford’s much needed Phase Eight!
However I didn't join the company at that level, but through hard work, bucket loads of gumption and grasping opportunities, I managed to secure a promotion! I started working with Phase Eight in November 2007 as a Deputy Manager and remained at that level for eleven months. This gave me time to settle in, grasp the company's concepts and outlooks and put my own stamp on things within our Stamford store so I was prepared for promotion when the time came.
My job criteria hasn't changed too much since my promotion- obviously there is a lot more responsibility, the buck stops at me and I constantly have to look at ways to drive the business forward! That aside, I basically get to work with a fantastic group of people, shopping for customers and playing with clothes all day!!! What girl isn't going to love that?! OK, so there are a few more responsibilities involved with my role, but I still consider myself very lucky to have a brilliant job that I enjoy!
Our stores work on a very personal level with both customers and staff, so it's a great opportunity to build relationships--this is also carried through into the main body of Phase Eight, creating a growing business but one that cares for its customers and staff. Daily tasks involve customer service, merchandising, maintaining standards throughout the store, overseeing staff, paperwork, not to mention counsellor and continuously attempting to give Gok a run for his money!
There are some real added bonuses too, including a marvelous Dress Allowance, becoming your own style guru and offering Personal Shopping appointments, the chance to organise glamorous Previews and Launch Parties, staff discount on personal purchases and a real opportunity to push the boundaries on what you think you are capable of! I have worked in retail for many years, but have never come across a company before that offers encouragement like Phase Eight. My Regional Manager regularly gives me the chance to get involved with the new Store Openings to broaden my views and capabilities, although I am still waiting for my invitation to visit our new branch in Holland!!!!
However in all seriousness, I am a working parent, which is no easy feat, but have found Phase Eight and my colleagues to be extremely flexible and supportive towards me and my family. I sincerely hope this has whetted your appetite enough to make that decision and apply for a great job with Phase Eight!!!!!
Good luck!
Store Manager, Glasgow Buchanan Galleries
I have extensive experience in retail management but I can honestly say that this is the best job I’ve ever had. Why?:
| 1) |
Respect - Everyone I’ve met has made me feel that my contribution is valued & that I’m an important part of the Phase Eight team |
| 2) |
Challenge - Mine is a new store and while everyone is supportive and helpful, I am encouraged to take responsibility for issues myself giving me a feeling of achievement |
| 3) |
Belief in the brand - Phase Eight is a high quality brand and everyone in the company from Saturday staff to the directors believes we are selling the best product and giving the best customer service |
| 4) |
Fun – Helping customers choose such lovely clothes and seeing them so happy with themselves is a great way to spend your day |
P.S. I love the clothes and using my discount is the best thing of all!
Supervisor, House of Fraser Meadowhall
The main responsibility for my post is to be customer focused, but there are many other duties associated with the job. There is a surprising amount of clerical work to be done and my computer skills have improved markedly. The shop floor has to be shown at its best, merchandising skills are important and everything has to be presented to a high standard.
I came into retail from catering and I am very pleased that Phase Eight trusted in me and gave me this opportunity. Much of my time with the company has been without a Concession Manager and this, with the great support from the Regional Manager, has given me the chance to improve my skills.
I love my job at Phase Eight because of the range of duties involved every day. With the training that I am getting this range is going to continue growing and the work will just get more varied and interesting.
Store Manager, Beverley
I have 25 years fashion retail experience, 16 years of which have been in management. I moved to Phase Eight just over 2 years ago when the Company decided to open a new store in the heart of Beverley.
The new store, like so many of the company’s stores, is a beautiful listed building that has been sympathetically restored, making it a lovely place to work in.
I have a very loyal team who all enjoy working for a company that cares about its employees. Phase Eight as a company pride itself on identifying individual strengths and then use them as a basis for personal development. In my 2 years service I have already had many opportunities to develop my management skills. I am a trainer on the region which involves Head Office visits, preparing and presenting training sessions and training new managers in the Beverley store. I have also been involved in new store openings and concession moves within department stores.
It is with genuine enthusiasm that I now look forward to my future with Phase Eight and hope to enjoy a long and happy career with such a unique company.
